The Buzz, June 24 Edition

Hello, and welcome to the June edition of the Buzz, your monthly dose of news from the Organic Sector.

I’d like to give a big shout-out to everyone for the amazing success of this year's Organic Week! The OrganicNZ Awards and Organic Futures Symposium in Wellington were absolutely fantastic, showcasing the incredible progress and innovation in our organic community. To Organic Week project manager Lou Vicente, the organising committee, and the volunteers, your passion and hard work were clearly visible, and I couldn't be prouder.

We also continue to support the great work of the OANZ Technical Working Group and the Organic Sector Advisory Council as they help the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) with the National Organic Standard. Their advice is key to shaping a solid regulatory framework for us all.

A special thanks goes to Yes Organics, OANZ's new GE-focused group, for their tireless efforts in advocating for the integrity of organics and New Zealand Inc. Their work is essential in maintaining consumer trust and ensuring the purity of Aotearoa’s organic farmers and producers.

I am also thrilled to announce that our SFFF funding application for $160,000 has been approved! The project aims to establish a sustainable, self-funded organic sector body. This initiative will determine the pathway forward to unite the Organic Sector, delivering on our sector strategy and enabling us to meet domestic and international opportunities. This is a significant step forward in ensuring the long-term viability and impact of OANZ, and our sector.

Thank you all for your ongoing support. Together, we’re making incredible strides toward a sustainable and thriving organic future.

Ngā mihi
