Big News for New Zealand’s Organic Trade in China

Food Safety Minister Andrew Hoggard MP recently announced an exciting upgrade to New Zealand's Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) for organic products with China, signed alongside Mr. Luo Wen, China’s Minister for State Administration for Market Regulation.

This strengthened agreement opens up new opportunities for our organic sector, streamlining the certification process and supporting the export of organic products to China.

In 2021/22, organic exports to China were valued at over $81 million, and this new MRA aims to build on that success, helping the Government reach its ambitious goal of doubling export value within the next decade with the help of the organic sector.

Government is committed to supporting the success of Kiwi businesses, and the upgraded MRA sets the foundations for a long and successful export market for our hardworking organic growers, manufacturers, and exporters
— Hon Andrew Hoggard

This is a significant step forward for New Zealand’s organic growers, manufacturers, and exporters, paving the way for a thriving export market. 🌿👏

The upgraded MRA is effective immediately, with a joint work programme to be developed soon.
