The Buzz, October 23 Edition
Hello, and welcome to the October edition of The BUZZ, your monthly dose of news from the Organic Sector.
As we enter the final quarter of 2023, the OANZ team are reflecting on our achievements this year and our struggles. Kiwis are living through an unprecedented cost of living crisis. The perfect storm is gathering as households see a painful rise in food costs, forcing consumers to make difficult choices at the supermarket. This crisis affects the whole supply chain, from farm to table. However, we believe everyone should have access to climate-friendly food and fibre, and this continues to drive our purpose —to drive the transition to organic regenerative food and farming systems across Aotearoa New Zealand.
Our priority right now is pursuing sustainable funding avenues for OANZ to enable our team to action the organic sector’s growth plans; honestly, it's challenging and frustrating. We see organic regenerative agriculture as a proven and science-led approach to the future of a climate-positive primary industry. The business case is straightforward for us, so we push on, supported by those who also believe in an organic future and by those who recently contributed to our fundraising campaign. We are still accepting donations to our Farming for the Future: Matching Gift Challenge. We are $11k short of the $60,000 target; please consider donating today if you can.
We are committed to working with the new Government and will continue to work hard on the new National Organic Standard to drive the best possible outcomes for our sector, our environment and our climate.
Ngā mihi
