March 2023 edition of The BUZZ, Organic Aotearoa's monthly newsletter.
Hello, and welcome to the March edition of The BUZZ, your monthly dose of news from the Organic Sector.
On behalf of the OANZ Board of Directors, we are sending our thoughts to all those families and communities affected by the recent devastating weather events. At our 1st of March OANZ Council Meeting, we spent some time hearing from our members about the impacts of these events on their farms and businesses and our board member Scott Lawson has been at ground level assisting with the response.
There can be very little doubt that climate change is real, and it will continue to bring about significant challenges to us all, especially to our farming communities.
So our work carries on, moving Aotearoa New Zealand, towards a climate-friendly farming future becomes more vital. Everyone in the Organic Sector knows this, we live and breathe it and through research, we know that organic regenerative practices builds resilience and the ability to better deal with weather extremes. Together we must continue to communicate the benefits of organic agriculture.
At our Council Meeting, OANZ CEO Tiffany Tompkins presented the priorities for OANZ this year and introduced two members of OANZ's Future Directors, Jamie Tucker and Eden Skipper. We are excited about this new initiative and look forward to sharing more about this project soon.
February saw the launch of the monthly OANZ Lunch & Learn Webinars. Catch the February recording with Nick Gill here and sign up for the March session, Celebrating Women in Aotearoa's Organic Sector here.
Lastly, the countdown for Organic Week is on. 1-7 May is fast approaching and nominations are open for the OrganicNZ Awards. Organic Week is a great opportunity for us all to collectively shout loudly about the benefits of organics. I implore you to get involved in some way or another. Sign up for email alerts here.
