Robyn O’Brien, rePlant Capital and OANZ Board Advisor

Speaking topic: Capital as the Catalyst: Solutions for soil health and climate change.

Robyn O’Brien is the co-founder of rePlant Capital, an impact investment firm, deploying integrated capital from soil to shelf in order to build soil health and financial resiliency for farmers. She is also the founder of Do Good, a strategic advisory firm, and the AllergyKids Foundation. Random House published Robyn’s book, The Unhealthy Truth, in 2009, and her TEDx talks have been translated into dozens of languages and viewed by millions around the world.

Jeff Moyer, CEO Rodale Institute

Speaking topic: What would it take for NZ to become regenerative organic world leaders?

Speaking time: 12.30 - 1 pm

Jeff Moyer has been on staff at Rodale Institute for over 44 years. He spent over 30 years as Farm Manager/Director, was appointed as Executive Director of the Institute in September 2015, and became CEO in September of 2019. Jeff was project leader on the highly acclaimed Organic No-Till project and is the author of the book on this subject: “Organic No-Till Farming – Advancing No-Till Agriculture Crops, Soil, Equipment.” He is a past chair of the National Organic Standards Board and currently sits on the boards of Regenerative Organic Alliance as Board Chair and the Soil Health Institute. Jeff is a founding board member of Pennsylvania Certified Organic and past Founder and Board Chair of The Seed Farm, a new farmer incubator project. His expertise includes organic crop production systems with a focus on weed management, cover crops, crop rotations, equipment modification and use, and facilities design. Jeff is perhaps most well-known for conceptualizing and popularizing the No Till Roller Crimper for use in organic agriculture.

Barbara Kuriger, Chair of Primary Select Committee

Speaking topic: Key trends for New Zealand agriculture.

Speaking time: 1 - 1.15 pm

Barbara is the current MP for Taranaki-King Country, and a shareholder in two family-owned farming businesses. She was named the 2012 Dairy Woman of the Year and has been a member of the Boards of DairyNZ, Primary ITO Board, Taratahi, Dairy Women’s Network, and NZ Young Farmers. Barbara has completed an Institute for Strategic Leadership MBA and is a past scholarship recipient of the Food & Agribusiness Market Experience (FAME). In 2014 she became a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Directors.

Shona Scott, Principal Advisor, MPI 

Speaking topic: MPI's proposed process for development of a national organic standard.

Speaking time: 1.15 - 1.30 pm

Shona Scott is a Principal Advisor working in the Food and Beverage team within MPI. Shona has worked in the food, dairy and regulatory sectors for the past 38 years. Shona will be responsible for development of a national organic standard and implementation of the proposed legislation if it progresses.

Yen Le, Senior Analyst, Market Insights MPI

Speaking topic: Initial findings from MPI’s organic market research in 7 markets

Speaking time: 1.30 - 1.45 pm

Yen is a senior policy analyst in the Market Insights team at MPI with nearly seven years experience in economic, analytical, and insight research. She has led insight projects to explore consumer preferences, market opportunities and risks for the seafood, avocado, and plant-based protein sectors.
