5 Reasons to Become an OANZ Member

There has never been a more critical time to be part of the OANZ community.

OANZ is working with the government and other organisations across multiple projects to enable system change in food, farming and climate change on a national level.

A well-supported organisation will allow us to make it happen faster and even better.

We are farmers, producers, traders, exporters and consumers and together, we created the 2022 Sector Strategy to transform Aotearoa's food and farming systems. The diversity of our membership is a strength, bringing together our national organic community to collaborate for the greater good.

Here are five reasons why you should join OANZ today!

1. Climate Change

What happens on our farms has huge consequences for our climate and impact on climate change. In New Zealand, nearly half of our national greenhouse gas emissions come from agriculture. The way we farm can make or break the health of our atmosphere.

The good news is that organic farming is climate-friendly, and could even counteract climate change if practiced on a large enough scale.

OANZ speaks out on behalf of the organic food and farming community to raise awareness about the urgent need to make regenerative organic agriculture part of a climate change solution.

2. The Organic Products Bill

New Zealand’s Parliament is currently in the process of creating new legislation to protect and regulate the organic sector in the Organic Products Bill. The Bill is currently on its way through Parliament, and its progress can be tracked online.

OANZ is engaging directly with Government and our members in an effort to ensure that the final law and regulations take into account the needs of organic producers. A member update from CEO Tiffany Tompkins is coming very soon…

3. Become the Next Organic Generation

According to theNew Zealand Organic Market Report 2020/21, the number of certified organic operators has risen by 105, or 9% since 2017, while the number of certified operations has increased by 198, or 12%. In our supermarkets, organics product sales are outgrowing conventional product sales by 4%. And we are exporting more than $420 million overseas. Be an advocate for a New Zealand where organics sits front and centre.

Join today and showcase your organisation by signing up for a case study to be featured on the OANZ website and social media channels. This is a great opportunity to share your part in New Zealand’s organic story.
